196_?….perhaps I haven’t changed much after all…
Do the major events in our lives really change us, or do they just make us more like ourselves?

I would vote for events making us more like ourselves (or revealing our selves). Your parents placed high value on books and reading?

Hi cardinal and thank you for the vote.
I’ve never been asked that before, nor asked it of myself.
The short answer is that my parents placed a high value on learning.
Neither of them were voracious readers. However, my mother read Pushkin and Lehrmontov to me in Russian every day through my infancy, and my father constantly devised games to play with me that were educational. My father’s sudden death when I had just turned 9 years old then left me, as an only child, primarily in the company of many books and one cat.

perhaps the cutest baby picture on the planet. seriously. and a great, thought provoking question to go along with it. I am still thinking on it…
